Results from scientific research

The compound palatal bar is another innovation from FORESTADENT wich has been clinically and biomechanically tested. The compound palatal bar is made from steel and NiTi components and has been analysed in a laboratory test regarding forces and momentum.

Forestadent

All steel and NiTi (SE) components show forces. The tests have been carried out with and without torque to show translations, rotation and combination movements. Unlike the Goshgarian arches wich have a deflection force of up to 2 N per mm, due to the stiffness of the material used, the compound palatal bar only shows a deflection force of approx. 0,5 N per mm. The characteristics of the compound palatal arch is particularly advantageous for rotation. When rotation by 30 degrees the momentum is below 15 N per mm. Such a preferable momentum will also allow single sided molar rotation without a force overload. The compound palatal bar is particularly suited for: - molar rotation - single sided distallisation - torquing - expansion Due to reduced force levels the compound palatal bar can be activated in bigger steps and reactivation is required less frequently. Even in extreme molar positions cases can be treated with the compound palatal bar. It is recommended to bend and adapt the palatal bar according to the model before the appliance is used for the first time. By doing so the risk of material fatigue at a later stage is greatly reduced.
