PRECISE, TEMPLATE-GUIDED INSERTION

For many years, orthodontic mini screws have proven to be reliable skeletal anchoring elements that enrich the range of orthodontic treatment options on offer. For the use of its OrthoEasy® Pal Pins in a targeted manner, FORESTADENT now offers an insertion template that helps users of the popular anchoring system to position these small supporting aids in the palate.

Accuguide – high-precision, simple, and economical

The new Accuguide insertion template facilitates inserting the mini screws in the palate far easier as well as more accurate. Thanks to Accuguide, the OrthoEasy® Pal mini implants can be navigated and inserted using a template as a guide, and the intended appliance can be attached to them. Ideally, only one treatment appointment (during which the intended appliance can be completely inserted) is required. Orthodontic treatment appliances, such as the Frosch II appliance for molar distalisation or the Snap Lock Expander for palatal expansion, can thus be inserted with even greater ease and – above all else – at a more affordable cost.

Secure data exchange using a German portal

The Accuguide workflow runs as follows: Once they have signed up on the FORESTADENT portal (www.Forestadent-Portal.com), which complies with the most stringent security requirements and the current data protection regulations, users create a patient case submitting the relevant data. They then upload the x-ray image (lateral cephalogram or cone beam computed tomography) and the STL files of the intraoral scans. No image may be older than one week. Furthermore, the intended appliance and other relevant information must be submitted under ‘Comments’. Users can alternatively send plaster models to FORESTADENT for digitalisation.

Virtual planning and support provided by a team of specialists

A specialised team of orthodontists and technicians will then propose positioning of the mini screws in line with the specifications submitted. This proposal will then be made available to the dentists’ surgery by means of 3D Viewer for inspection and approval. There is no need to buy any special software for this. During this step, the dental practitioner also has the opportunity to clarify unanswered questions with the team via the portal.

Insertion within four to five weeks

Once the dental practitioner has approved the virtual planning process, the working model and the insertion template are 3D-printed and sent to the surgery. Using the available working model as a basis, the surgery’s laboratory or laboratory partner can now produce the intended appliance with the OrthoEasy® Pal mini screws. The pins can then be precisely inserted into the palate using the individual Accuguide insertion template for guiding support.
As scientific developments stand at present, the entire process from taking the x-rays or scans to insertion should last no longer than four to five weeks.
