THE FAS ALIGNER SYSTEM

Pforzheim, March 14th, 2023.

An accurate and comprehensive diagnosis is key to successful orthodontic treatment, and is a major factor in the progress, duration and long-term stability of the eventual results. FAS gives users of aligners a new treatment system, which uses the latest technologies for ultra-precise diagnosis and case planning to achieve the best possible therapy outcomes.

Incorporating the fourth dimension into case planning

The FAS treatment plan – the OcclusalDesign® – can incorporate not only conventional diagnostic imaging tools, but also DVT and records of the mandible‘s rotational movements. Using this 4D data, both the alignment of the teeth and functional aspects can be factored into the aligner therapy. This means FAS can be used to deliver successful therapies and achieve long-term orthopedic stability in even the most complex cases. The treatment philosophy on which fas is based, has been developed by orthodontists Dr. Domingo Martín and Dr. Alberto Canábez. Their ultimate intension was to create an aligner system that allows for treatment plans as individual as with fixed appliances, while providing the best possible aesthetic, functional and long-term stable treatment outcome.

Functional and aesthetic results that last

In contrast to most conventional aligner systems, FAS treatment is planned in the actual „arc of closure“. That‘s to say, the setup accounts not only for static occlusion, but also the individual movement patterns of the mandible. For this, the „arc of closure“ can be identified or defined using suitable camera systems, for example. The center of jaw rotation can also be determined by evaluating CBCT’s, which can add further advantages. For instance, the threedimensional X-ray image enables treatment planning with the real tooth roots and thus the precise assessment of the bone available in each case. This ensures that the induced tooth movements take place exclusively within the alveolar bone, which in turn contributes to the avoidance of relapses and thus to the desired long-term stability of the treatment result.

More efficient, more reliable realization of the treatment objectives

As part of the OcclusalDesign® of the FAS aligner system, every treatment plan is generally split into individual phases, irrespective of the severity of the malocclusion. This means every new phase of the treatment is always planned on the basis of the current situation. This continuous examination of the interim objective achieved means any deviations from the plan can be identified and resolved early in the course of treatment. Furthermore, the Stop & Go® option (included in the fas pro packages) provides an additional verification function within the individual treatment phase. This means the entire aligner treatment can be planned with even greater precision. Defined objectives can be achieved effectively and reliably, avoiding the need for additional refinements after the therapy itself is complete.

Planning team of experienced orthodontists

Artificial intelligence (AI) is an indispensable tool in aligner therapy today. However, when it comes to achieving the best possible results the FAS aligner system does not rely solely on AI for OcclusalDesign®. Instead, the case planning is actually undertaken by a team of highly trained orthodontic specialistes with extensive experience in aligner planning, especially in the application of the treatment philosophy underpinning FAS. The job portal in the Wizard® serves as a useful communication tool, which clinicians can use to define their therapy objectives in detail and to transfer this to the planning team. They can also use the chat function at any time to contact their colleagues in the planning center.
